Collaborative and customized college consulting for students, student-athletes, and families.
From the first day of school, we strive to prepare our children for success. This started by selecting the best elementary and middle schools possible. The college selection process is a continuation of this journey. I understand the importance of finding a school that is a good fit and use a method that emphasizes a holistic and values-driven approach, which is essential for long-term success.
At Shannon Bell Consulting, I support students and their families through high school and the college selection process. By teaching students to identify their values and use them as a guide to decision-making, students learn the importance of living a purpose-driven life. This approach enables students to select schools that truly align with their values and goals. Integrity, excellence, and a commitment to lifelong learning are highly valued. My mission is to help students and student-athletes become strong, competitive college applicants, maximizing opportunities for success.
By only accepting a small select group of students, I offer a concierge approach to the college application and athletic recruiting process. Through ongoing values education, students learn to navigate life based on their self-identified values. The deep understanding of each student allows me to guide them effectively, particularly with application essays, one of the most impactful parts of the college application process. Student-focused meetings revolve around current and potential future interests, while also encouraging the exploration of new social and academic ideas. If they choose, students can learn about potential careers by connecting with professionals in their area of interest. Taking a holistic approach, students are supported through the entire journey to college and through their freshman year of college.
I offer comprehensive and hourly services that are customized to students of all levels. For student-athletes, I help families and students throughout the college recruitment process. Services are tailored to the unique needs of each student and their families to ensure the best possible outcomes. You don't have to know what you want to do with the rest of your life to start. I am here to help guide you in every way.
Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, I moved with my husband to Colorado in 2004 after living in the Washington DC area for several years. I am passionate about and am a long-time advocate for education. With a B.S. in Education from the University of Memphis, a College Counseling Certificate from UCLA, and as an academic life coach, I have been involved in education for nearly thirty years. My involvement spans from working in classrooms across schools of various socioeconomic backgrounds, curricula development, volunteering for educational advocacy groups, starting programs in schools, and tutoring, I am passionate about working with students and families and dream of a world where everyone who seeks an education can assess a quality one.
Being a first-generation college student, I understand the profound impact education can have on a person's life and on the generations that follow. I also understand the financial impact it can have on a student and their family. Finding a school that fits financially, academically, and socially is important to me.
I highly value living a purpose-driven life and believe knowing who you are in both good times and challenging moments is crucial. This understanding inspired me to create a process that helps students better understand themselves at a younger age, identify their values, and recognize how values evolve. Students use this information to select the school that meets their unique needs and helps them make choices that positively impact their lives. If I had a soapbox to stand on, it would be educational fit. Finding the right learning environment can propel personal and professional success in incredible ways.
As the parent of three children who are athletes, I understand that life isn't always 9 to 5 and that students and student-athletes often work on homework late into the evening. I understand how stressful college recruiting can be for student-athletes and their families. At times, it can feel like you're in a game where everyone knows the rules except you and your child's hopes and dreams are on the line. I understand the struggle. It is very real.
When I'm not working, I enjoy playing tennis, listening to podcasts, visiting college campuses, and being with my family. We have two dogs and one geriatric frog. I enjoy watching as much baseball and cheerleading as possible. You can usually find me on the sidelines somewhere cheering. I love movies and being with my children. When I'm with them, no matter where we are in the world, I'm in my happy place.
I look forward to talking with you and helping you on your journey.
